A Survey of Popular Political Sentiments

Public sentiments determine social welfare, especially in a democracy. Perceptions are based on beliefs and what we believe to be true. This is a small, unpretentious, unscientific survey of popular political sentiments to find out how some people feel about what’s going on in India. It is a sample survey but is definitely biased: only those who read this blog (and other associated social media) are possible respondents. So this sample selection bias ensures that this cannot be generalized for the whole population. But I am interested in precisely that sample: those who read/write blogs and tweets. I need your help: please spread the word around.

Your help in getting the word around is much needed and appreciated. Post this short link (the link is to this post itself) about the survey in your blog or your twitter time-line, and of course take the survey yourself. You will be doing a public service since the results will be publicly available and could help us understand how the collective feels.

Alright, here goes.

(Please note: This survey was first done on SurveyMonkey, and is now closed at that site. The survey continues on “Google Forms” below. If you have already responded, thank you — there is no need to respond here. UPDATE: I have posted the intermediate results of the survey.)

UPDATE: This survey was first done on SurveyMonkey using their free version. Unfortunately, that restricts responses to just 100. I have closed the survey there. I will consolidate the results so far and post it in a bit. Thank you all for your help in promoting this survey. You all have my gratitude.

UPDATE 27th May 11 AM PST: I have posted the intermediate results of the survey.

Thanks. I hope some of you will link to this in your blogs and tweet about it.

Why does the survey show in a small frame? Any way you can share the SurveyMonkey link? That may be more user friendly.

    • http://www.deeshaa.org Atanu Dey

      Giri,

Here is the link where you can take the survey on the SurveyMonkey site. It does not have a small frame as on this blog.

      Thanks.

My two paisa, just submitted to your sentiment(al) collection.

    Done.

Some of the questions were neat, but as noted in my comments in the survey, sometimes, the one option one was looking for, was entirely missing from the entire list.

The results will be interesting to have a look at, nevertheless.

Will put an entry at my blog asking people to take this survey in a day or two.

Great questionnaire. However I submitted my survey in SurveyMonkey at 9:19 pm 27th May. Have you overflown your survey-monkey-100 limit? Do I need to resubmit the poll here?

  • http://www.deeshaa.org Atanu Dey

    Sambaran,

Yes, the 100-response limit was hit quite soon. Hence the shift to “Google Forms” to continue the survey. I will post the (intermediate) results soon. Thank you for participating.

Hi Atanu, I recast my opinion at google docs. I didn’t mind repeating as I hugely enjoyed the questionnaire.

One request. I get your blog through google reader. For folks like me, it will help if you remove the surveymonkey link altogether from your post since the survey is now closed there.

Thanks all for participating and your feedback. I am really pleased that some of you thought that the survey was good. This is the first time I have used a survey site and although it appears as though it will not take much time, it does take a surprisingly large amount of time.

It’s going to take a long time to understand the results as well.

  • subodh khanna

You should add one more Q to allow listing of alt name (for those who do not support either of two – Sonia or N Modi)!

  • Srinivasan

    Way to go!!

  • http://www.vedanta-kolkata.org Ramaswamy

  • Kishan

Atanu, I hope you will publish all the responses in the survey or at least some contrarian ones.I will like to see what arguments the people with socialistic instincts give in their favor.

  • SV

Gave my answers, hope it isn’t late.
