Open Thread: The why of things

“The man who knows how will always have a job. The man who knows why will always be his boss.” Ralph Waldo Emerson was a clever man. Someone else wrote that if we know the why, we can always figure out the how. Perhaps it was I or perhaps it was someone smarter. Anyhow, this is an open thread. Say what you will. I am going to be back in a bit.

hey where you going? take me with you.
If you know both the why and the how, you’re overqualified and won’t have a job.
Without understanding the why, it is virtually impossible to know what needs to be done.
It was Nietzsche who said : “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”

Hi Atanu,
It is important to be thorough in both the cases to realise the advantages. One tends to be thorough in manual tasks by practice… but what does one do with regard to thinking and knowing the ‘why’? When does one know he is thorough! May be its an unending quest…
