The only motive of corporations is profit and nothing wrong in it ,there is nothing wrong in profits as long as they are ethically made.as to their's having social responsiblity that is also profit driven i.e it increases their visiblity creates a good name and most importantly they help in creating future employees and customers for their company by sponsoring through education schemes or colleges.

If corporations are given the same rights as human beings even though they are not human beings, I see no harm in holding them responsible for any social ills that happen because of their bad decisions or greed. Corporations can't have their cake and eat it too.

Though, IMO, corporate profits and solution of social problems doesn't have to be at odds with each other if long-term thinking is involved instead of short-term greed.

I am not sure whether that is correct. Take example of Oil companies, they are making handsom profits; so as per this logic; they are doing fine. But in reality, everyone agrees that they are not. They actually discouraged development of US public transport systems so as to make money; did not invest into green technologies even when they were aware of impact of current energy solutions on environment. Same can be said for insurance /pharma companies in US. They are all making money, but everyone in the society feels that those companies are not fulfiling their responsibilities.

I think when profit is ultimate motive; companies also get into the business of defining what is legal by their political contributions. I dont know how that can be curbed.
