Ashish (and others),

If you are interested, once you read Kak's book, please read the "Secret of Veda" by Shri Aurobindo.

Reading that work of the great Seer on Veda, and his other works (like on Gita) will surely fill up your heart with joy for everything that India was.

The practical reality is, such a great country is now being ruled and destroyed by pygmies and crooks (to use a phrase of Atanu).

[Just stating my opinion, though no one asked:)]

Regards,

@Amar

i intend to read Kak's book some day, it is on my reading list. I have followed Prof. Kak's articles. And I am an astronomer, so I understand his arguments (which he does provide to certain extent).

blogs like those by 'Guru' short circuit all the debate, by 'proving' how much our ancestors knew. it somehow implies we are great too, since we were born in India.

i am just sick and tired of that. if you can prove the argument yourself, go ahead and do it. otherwise, all you (and Guru) should do, is to point a finger at Kak's book.

this does not absolve Kak, merely that I have not read his book.

Ashish,

Please read Feuerstein-Kak's book:
http://www.amazon.com/Search-Cradle-Civilization-Georg-Feuerstein/dp/0835607410/, which has a similar calculation. The book is a fascinating read in many ways.

After showing the speed of light calculation in their book (using among many things, Saayana Bhashya), Prof. Kak and others say (something like) "Looks like they [the seers] were extremely lucky in getting this right".

boss, any words of wisdom, since you have chanted some of the Vedas? All I want, is why and where the speed of light is defined, and what is the discussion behind such a calculations.

Atanu,

Guru got the formula from Rg Veda. then used calculations by Sayana. then received one value from Mahabharata. finally, the last value was obtained from Vishnu Purana.

Given that all were written by different people, and their interpretations differed from each other, such a calculation can not be taken too seriously.

One will have to either obtain all the values from one single source (which explains why the formula is the way it is), OR show that all the above sources have interpretations consistent with each other (and explain the formula from one of the sources).

All silly, at best, typical of right-wing idiots. They waste too much of time proving the greatness of their old civilization, while rolling in the gutter with 100 crore similar ones.

I agree with each and every word of the article.
