Gandhiji said:
"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it". It kind of fits very well in this exogenous/endogenous perspective of a society.

Shivani & Shiv,

The worst enemy is apathy...bred by cynicism.

Instead of lamenting the fact I think what we should do what is in our power. However miniscule our readership is, as bloggers, we can do our bit by writing about it. And put up the banner too!

Cynics would point out that one banner isn't going to change anything. It's also within our power to shut the cynics up by doing it anyway.

Cruelty of the worse order - to know the truth and not be able to take action on it.

It would have been better if they elected the ordinary man on street.
Why can't we stop it? ...

It seems all people who jump into politics become brain and heart dead at the same time... Well at least in India most have the incentive to do.

Could not agree more!!

This is my pet peeve when people thrusts all blame on the leadership ( particularly political leadership of two states).

While spending reasonable number of years in and around those states, I have observed that not only the political leaders but even the most common men are corrupt to the core( it is a generalization, exceptions exist), the only difference is that the individual impact of a corrupt common man is far less than that of a political leader. Even the mess secretaries of our hostel was openly corrupt and it was accepted by all.

Now whether the leadership motivated the common man to indulge in corrption ( "Yaar, mantriji char karod ka pakodi kha gaye", one of my friend justified his stance referring to the much publicized snacks and tea expenditure filed by certain MLAs in 2001) or it is the other way round, is open to debate. But, I feel, the latter part of the sentence is probably true.....
