This is a misnomer thatthese are the same panchayats as being promoted by constitutional amendment. These are caste Panchayats and no noe ca nreally control them.
Moreover infidelity in maritalrelations is prevalent in schedule tribes and castes and it is not frowned upon but people are allowed to move on by paying a fine.

This article triggers a lot of emotions and instincts within me. The urban (read sheltered) Indian within me attempts to avoid realizing the depth of the words and evade the brutality of the facts. The modern (read ignorant) Indian within me tries to cross-reference this with what he knows of Gandhi's teachings and philosophies and is scared of the situation at hand for the policy makers and citizens of this country. The individual, that I am, is overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the task at hand for our generation to do anything which will effect any sort of noticeable change.

btw, Happy New Year.

Hi Atanu,

Well, I am really not sure what to comment on this, but wanted to make some comments as I have experienced indiscriminate discrimination in my life in various forms.

I want to mention a shocking event that took place in my life. As usual like lots of Indian youth who come of college, and dream about going to US, I also joined the bandwagon and paid a few thousands of rupees to an institution in Hyderabad. They told that they will process H1B papers for the most intelligent guys first and take it from there. But to our utter surprise, in the next 1 year or so none of the top guys in the institute got their H1B, but all the guys who belonged to the CASTE of the MD/CEO got the SACRED H1B papers and they flew to US, finally ALL the so called highly intelligent guys who belong to different/lower castes had to find jobs some where else and find some other means in realizing the dream of getting sacred H1B.

This is just one major example that I have experienced and how deeply India is divided on caste basis and the mayhem that it is creating in the society on a day to day basis. What do you think about that, is it just RURAL INDIA? Only uneducated indians, or the whole Indians. Personally as more and more people are getting educated more and more caste conflicts are happenning, the society is getting more and more grouped on the caste lines.

Forget about rural India, I would like to see educated India, which will treat each and every person that visits their house with same level of respect like giving water in the same glasses, allowing them to eat at the same level. I may not be clear enough in expressing, but I don't see it happenning in the near future, I really wish I can see that happen.

6th Sense Kind of Dialouge:
'I SEE HIGHLY EDUCATED PEOPLE EVEN IN USA DISCRIMINATING AGAINST FELLOW INDIANS ON CASTE BASIS'

Ramdhan,

Your comments are pertinent to the core problem that confronts India and which is being systematically ignored by practically everyone. I will begin exploring that topic from today onwards.

Regards,
Atanu
